marquis & camus, high shopping from nyc.

by revisiting, reworking and redefining art and culture,
marquis & camus breathes new life into vintage treasures
by linking lost, once loved objects
with their contemporary counterparts.
their unique, handcrafted collection strengthens
the bond between past and present
generating a remixed atmosphere.
adorable! ... (even if a bit expensive.)

david fullarton, mixed media artist from ca.

david fullarton is a scottish born, san francisco based artist.
he keeps notebooks filled with scraps of paper,
scribbled phrases, and other ephemera that he incorporates into his artwork.
these elements represent the often overlooked stuff of daily life,
which is the root of fullarton’s inspiration.
he sees beauty in the ways people manage to find joy
and meaning in the minutiae.

he paints vibrantly complex canvases whose elements
jumble and mix together in a facsimile of modern life.
he compliments these with smaller mixed media drawings on paper.
these paper works are sometimes the genesis of the finished paintings,
but are more often stand-alone vignettes
featuring forlorn characters who find themselves in compromising situations.

rebecca thuss, pure style from brooklyn.

rebecca thuss is a photo-stylist, creative director,
wedding designer and crafter.
she delights in throwing parties, has a passion for packaging,
a weakness for fanciful candy and confections,
and an infatuation with vintage paper items.
she's got... ahhh... such a taste!

i'm just sad, twice:
#1 'cause i'm not enough rich to call her for my wedding day...
#2 'cause...ops, i'm still married!

anyway... she can help you for your parties, for your wed day.
and over!

RHLS, a modern way to create handmade clothes. from brooklin.

they specialize in super quality, handmade apparel, made by the designers r.mackswell sherman, and sarah jones in redhook, brooklyn. their studio sits sea side, complete with a glimmering view of the statue of liberty, right across the water providing them with hope.

theye like to keep it small, ethical and homegrown. no outsourcing their labor overseas or even out of state (its all done under one roof). they use salvaged materials, dead stock from manufacturers, or vintage sweatshirts, and vintage cotton products as their source fabric.

they are part of a wonderful business model called parachute, (a new project by the founder of etsy.com). theye are exploring ways to help cottage industry pioneers take their business to the next level and compete with mainstream fashion/production industry by providing subsidies and educational opportunities. by supporting RHLS your are supporting the future of handmade industry.

to buy their own stuff, go on etsy, of course!

cocorosie is an american duo based out of france and formed by sisters
bianca leilani "coco" and sierra rose "rosie" casady in 2003.
sierra and bianca casady are part native american sisters.
sierra, the older of the two, was born in iowa, and bianca was born in hawaii.
their mother nicknamed them rosie and coco, respectively,
from which their musical act takes its name.

their mother, a teacher and artist,
would compulsively move the girls across the country
from one state to another.
their estranged father traveled around the usa
teaching in steiner waldorf schools,
and was involved in shamanism and peyote religion.
sierra and bianca spent their summers
hiking from reservation to reservation with their father.

when sierra was 5 years old and bianca 3,
their parents divorced.

in 2000, at age 20, sierra moved into a tiny apartment
in the montmartre district in paris,
to pursue a career as an opera singer, studying at the conservatoire de paris.

during this period, bianca studied linguistics and sociology,
and pursued her passion of visual arts and writing.
she also collected a variety of tattoos,
and was known to attend controversially "ironic,"
white-held "kill whitey" parties in williamsburg, brooklyn.

in 2003, bianca was growing restless and decided it was time for a change.
she left her apartment in brooklyn to travel the world.
unexpectedly, she showed up at sierra's apartment in paris.

over the course of the next two months,
the women spent nearly every waking hour in sierra's apartment.
soon, they had completed both a hip hop recording (never released)
called "word to the crow" and their proper debut album “la maison de mon rêve”.
